Kicking off my first interview is DMV based rapper K-Quick
Remix Phenom DJ Soulchild kicks off 2024 with a fresh bop as he brings his talents to a Philly soul classic with his spin on Teddy Pendergrass’s “Close The Door. ” As fans of R&B music already know, the song is a classic soul and R&B ballad that oozes sensuality and romance. It was released in 1978 on Teddy’s Life Is a Song worth Singing album. The song highlights Pendergrass’s smooth and commanding vocals, which have become iconic in soul music.
Soulchild’s “Close the Door” remix arrangement swaps the original lush orchestral backing for a dance floor vibe. Fans who follow DJ Soulchild know he prides himself on using production that still compliments the original songs’ captivating melody. Here, the producer speeds up the production but always retains Pendergrass’s emotive delivery. The song’s production creates a warm and intimate atmosphere, drawing the listener in and setting the mood for a dance with someone you may find attractive.

On the morning of February 8, 1977, Tony Kiritsis walked into a mortgage office in Indianapolis convinced the system had finally turned on him. What followed was one of the most unsettling media spectacles of the decade: a 63-hour hostage standoff in which Kiritsis literally wired a sawed-off shotgun to both his victim’s neck and his own chest. It was desperation theater, broadcast live, raw and ugly, and fueled by a man who believed grievance was the same thing as righteousness.
Eric Benét’s holiday album, “It’s Christmas”, finds the four-time Grammy nominee embracing comfort rather than challenge. He delivers a collection that is impeccably sung and tastefully arranged, though it ultimately feels a bit too cautious for an artist of his talent and history.
