Slow Jam Saturday : Roberta Flack & Maxi Priest, “Set the Night to Music”

Heaven gained another angelic voice last weekend when the iconic Roberta Flack made her transition. I kept Ms. Flack’s music in regular rotation, particularly her cover of Stephen Bishop’s “It Might Be You.” However, for this week’s Slow Jam Saturday, I wanted to highlight another one of her covers, “Set the Night to Music.”

Diane Warren wrote the titular track from her 1991 album, “Set the Night to Music,” a cover version of Starship’s 1988 hit. The song featured Maxi Priest. The romantic duet illustrates magical love moments between two people beneath the night sky. The song delivers serenity and passion while showcasing how two singers bond to create a meaningful shared experience. Flack’s beautiful voice croons the lyrics.

“Look at all the stars tonight, Look at all the moonlight, Look at us, we’re all alone” depicts a secluded romantic moment between the performers while highlighting the natural beauty of the night and their solitary intimacy. This line demonstrates how physical intimacy transforms the night into an orchestra of emotions and romantic desires.

The couple intends to create a distinct and harmonious bond that lets them escape reality while fully embracing their love. These song words highlight the importance of being present at the moment and enjoying time together while ignoring outside distractions and obligations.

Hearing the song at age 43, celebrating intimacy between two people through romantic and sensual moments shared beneath the night sky is crystal clear. Warren’s lyrics highlight the powerful emotional and physical connection the singers share as they portray an organic bond that extends beyond worlds.

The combination of night sky elements, including stars and moonlight, serves as symbols that express the magical quality of the lovers’ bond, establishing a dreamlike atmosphere surrounding their connection. The conversion of night into music represents their love and passion, transforming into a resonant melody that captures their shared emotions.

“Set the Night to Music” depicts a deeply affectionate and joyful experience between two profoundly loved people. The song honors the strength of human connections, nighttime splendor, and the creation of a personal world through love and passion.

Final Grade: A

“The Studio” is a witty take on the madhouse of Hollywood

Seth Rogen continues his successful relationship with Apple TV in his latest comedic series, “The Studio.” Rogen and his longtime collaborator, Evan Goldberg, direct all ten episodes and write three. Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez write the remaining episodes.

“O’Dessa” is an out of pitch genre mash up

Director Geremy Jasper attempts to modernize the rock opera genre in his sophomore film, “O’Dessa,” available on Hulu. Jasper also pens the film’s screenplay. Rising actress Sadie Sink portrays the titular character, a farm girl searching to recover a cherished family heirloom. She travels to a strange and dangerous city, where she meets her one true love, Euri Dervish (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). To save his soul, she must put the power of destiny to the ultimate test.
