Slow Jam Saturday : Isley Jasper Isley, “Insatiable Woman”

When discussing families in R&B music, three names are usually at the top: Jackson, Debarge, and Isley. For the first Slow Jam Saturday of 2025, I wanted to show love to Isley Jasper Isley and their  hit “Insatiable Woman” from their 1985 album “Caravan of Love.”

Isley-Jasper-Isley was a subgroup formed by members of the Isley Brothers in 1984, consisting of Chris Jasper (keyboards), Ernie Isley (lead guitar), and Marvin Isley (bass). The formation resulted from creative differences that emerged within the original ensemble.

The group had already found the titular song from the album, so it was only natural that they would deliver a ballad for the follow-up. Led with a sensual vocal by Chris Jasper, “Insatiable Woman” celebrates the intense and passionate love between two people. The lyrics express Chris’s deep affection and desire for the woman in his life. He devotes all his time and energy to loving and satisfying her emotionally and physically.

The term “insatiable woman” means she is hungry for love and happiness. She wants the “high” that their relationship induces — it indicates an intense, profound longing for sex and connection. Its singer recognizes that no other person on earth can satisfy him in the same way, which is a reminder of how unique and precious they are.

The song depicts the woman as attractive and alluring. The singer is drawn to her emotionally and physically, and she can tantalize and entertain him. They feed on one another kiss one another, and enter a state of ecstatic rapture.

The line over and over about the singer going to work and the woman telling him not to stay long suggests that they both miss each other. They may be apart by day, but they love each other deeply. It also shows how deeply connected they are and how eager they are to see each other again.

While Isley Jasper Isley had a short run before disbanding in 1987, “Insatiable Woman” still ranks high in the Isley catalog of slow jam, as anyone who has ever had a passionate and intense love for someone will relate to the message.

 Final Grade: A

“O’Dessa” is an out of pitch genre mash up

Director Geremy Jasper attempts to modernize the rock opera genre in his sophomore film, “O’Dessa,” available on Hulu. Jasper also pens the film’s screenplay. She travels to a strange and dangerous city, where she meets her one true love, Euri Dervish (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). To save his soul, she must put the power of destiny to the ultimate test.

“Dope Thief” is a gripping crime drama

Academy Award nominee Peter Craig collaborates with fellow nominee Ridley Scott to adapt Dennis Tafoya’s novel Dope Thief for television.
