Slow Jam Saturday: Heatwave, “Look After Love”

As enthusiasts of the group may be aware, Johnnie Wilder Jr, a founding member and lead vocalist, suffered a debilitating accident in 1979, resulting in paralysis from the neck down. “Current” marked the final Heatwave album to showcase his vocals, following which he pursued a solo career. Notably, Rod Temperton, a fellow band member and primary songwriter, departed from the group after this album, after achieving recognition for his contributions to the music of the King of Pop.

Continuing the group’s tradition of heartfelt ballads, ‘Look After Love’ delves into the profound love and affection experienced in a relationship. have found. This theme is reiterated throughout the song, highlighting the importance of nurturing the relationship and guarding against any potential threats or challenges that may arise.

While it may be known as “Always and forever,” “Look after Love” is a heartfelt and optimistic song that celebrates the power of love and the importance of nurturing and preserving it. With a passionate and sincere lead from Wilder that would put some contemporary singers to shame, it reminds listeners of the profound impact love can have on one’s life.
