Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer closes out successfully

The remaining episodes of the Second season of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer arrive as Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) continues to defend Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla), a chef accused of murdering a real estate developer. Mickey, his legal assistant and former spouse Lorna Crane (played by Becki Newton), his trusted investigator Cisco (played by Angus Sampson), and his driver Izzy (played by Jazz Raycole), will stop at nothing to take down the formidable criminal prosecutor Andy Freemann (played by Yaya DaCosta) in Trammell’s case.

When we last left Mickey, he had recovered from getting beat down and had a new motivation to win. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo continues to shine in the lead role as Mickey is a skilled maneuver, always searching for the strategic move that will save his client. Despite facing overwhelming odds and evidence, he tenaciously explores every possible avenue in search of a breakthrough. Viewers may wonder how Mickey manages to keep going. The answer lies in his courage, resourcefulness, and sharp legal acumen fueled by an unyielding determination to survive.

The supporting cast also gets moments to shine, with Yaya DaCosta holding her own with a vibe that I wouldn’t mind a spin-off on her character. I liked the determination of Izzy and her side story of trying to get a business off the ground. At the same time, Cisco and Lorna have a cute love story that kept me looking forward to their happy ending. Lana Parrilla also had a solid arc as Lisa Trammel.

The final aspect of Season 2 that caught my attention was legal slang. For instance, asserting the Fifth Amendment privilege is colloquially referred to as “taking the nickel.” And when selecting jurors, lawyers seek out “the hanger” – someone who can deadlock the jury and secure an acquittal. Approving a potential juror becomes akin to punching their ticket.

While I’m unfamiliar with the source material in watching the show but it’s clear that book series author Michael Connelly has a talent for creating gripping plot twists and turns. My wife and I were utterly engrossed in the remaining four episodes as we watched Mickey skillfully manipulate the court system and our perceptions as readers. The additional storylines involving other characters also added depth to our viewing experience.

The closing moments of the final episode hint at another engaging storyline for Season 3, which I anxiously await.

Final Grade: B+

“Music By John Williams” gives a legendary Maestro his flowers

On a musical level, the documentary is a library of Williams’ great works. It’s dramatic performances of his most famous songs, such as the classic “Star Wars” marches, the grand piano music from “Jurassic Park,” and the melancholy music from “Schindler’s List.” Each song is part of a narrative, a call to revisit old films and remember their heart-wrenching connections. Its thrilling finale (which celebrated his work on “Harry Potter”) also underscores the longevity of his music among audiences today.

“SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY” is a lovely tribute
