Hijinks and fun continue in Is It Cake Season 2

Comedian Mikey Day reunites with Netflix for Season 2 of the hit show Is It Cake. Deception is the name of the game for the world’s most talented bakers, who will compete to create hyper-realistic cakes that look exactly like everyday objects – with cash on the line. But are they good enough to deceive a panel of celebrity judges… and you? You’ll be asking yourself, ‘Is it real?’ Or…Is It Cake?”

The bakers in Season 2 are Corterrius Allen, Danya Smith, Elizabeth Rowe, Jarid Altmark, Justin Salinas, Kayla Giddings, Liz Marek, Miko Kaw Hok Uy, Pete Tidwell, and Spirit Wallace. In contrast, the guest judges include notable Hollywood talents such as Anna Camp, Chris Redd, Taylor Tomlinson, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Maz Jobrani.

I don’t recall the 2020 meme trend where bakers made things look so close to reality that you cannot tell if they are Cake or the actual object. However, I recall that in the late nineties, there was a trend of making desserts that looked like foods you would serve as a main course. However, Is…It Cake caught my attention, and I decided to check it out.

Mostly, the show follows the same pattern as the first Season. I don’t want to go into much detail about the challenges, but the creatives come up with quirky things to make Cake out of. Part of the merriment of the show is watching quirky host Day engage in banter with the constants.

Furthermore, similar to Netflix’s other cooking competition show about barbeque, Is It Cake feels like something other than a competition where those involved want to tear each other down. On this network, the competitors are all about positivity, and there is no backstabbing or sabotage. It is a fun atmosphere as everyone tries to figure out the best way to hide their cakes.

Even if you aren’t a sweets person, the quality of family entertainment in this is undeniable. How wonderful it is to experience something so refreshing and pure! Joy comes from enjoying simplicity without any over-complication or lofty ambitions. It’s inspiring, bringing a sense of lightness and happiness. Sometimes the most positive things are the simplest.

Final Grade: B+

Is It Cake Season 2 premiers globally on Netflix June 30th.

“The Gray House” Review: Civil War Spy Drama Reveals the Women Who Saved the Union

Civil War dramas often measure valor through cannon fire and cavalry charges. However, “The Gray House*“valuates valor through coded messages, calculated risks, and the steady nerves of women who understood that information could be deadlier than any rifle. This eight-episode limited series reframes the conflict not from the battlefield, but from the drawing rooms of Richmond, where loyalty is performed, and survival depends on silence.

“In the Blink of an Eye” Review: Ambition Without Cohesion

It’s been a month since I finished my first run at Sundance, and I’m finally getting the chance to see some of the films I missed as they began to premiere. One of those films is “In the Blink of an Eye,” which is available on Hulu. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton and written by Colby Day.
