Single Review: Lucky Daye, Careful

Former American Idol contestant Lucky Daye may have been eliminated after reaching the Top 20 in Season 4. However, he’s steadily built a name for himself in R&B music. He has released two albums and three EPs and received accolades from Billboard, Complex, and other music publications, making him a notable presence in the music industry.

His music has charted on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, and he collaborated with several notable artists.

For his latest release, Lucky provided the lead single to The Original Motion Picture “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” In the song, Lucky Daye tells us to be careful what we wish for.

This song warns the listener not to allow themselves to get “carried away” and that they may do something they regret later. The chorus emphasizes this caution by warning the person to be careful what they wish for because they may not like the outcome. The singer also makes it clear that they have the power to take the person they’re singing to on a journey that they won’t forget. Ultimately, the song is a warning to take caution and think before acting.

Having seen the film, I can see how it ties into its storyline. Hopefully, Mr. Daye is cooking up a tour for 2023, as I envision this song coming over great in concert with his female fans.

Final Grade: B+

‘Dead Man’s Wire’ turns a true-crime nightmare into a crowd-pleaser

On the morning of February 8, 1977, Tony Kiritsis walked into a mortgage office in Indianapolis convinced the system had finally turned on him. What followed was one of the most unsettling media spectacles of the decade: a 63-hour hostage standoff in which Kiritsis literally wired a sawed-off shotgun to both his victim’s neck and his own chest. It was desperation theater, broadcast live, raw and ugly, and fueled by a man who believed grievance was the same thing as righteousness.

Second Listen Sunday: Eric Benét, “It’s Christmas”

Eric Benét’s holiday album, “It’s Christmas”, finds the four-time Grammy nominee embracing comfort rather than challenge. He delivers a collection that is impeccably sung and tastefully arranged, though it ultimately feels a bit too cautious for an artist of his talent and history.
