The Jacksons, a prominent musical family, experienced a recent loss with the passing of Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson earlier this week. As fans already know, Tito was an integral part of The Jackson 5 formation, and his contributions are worthy of our utmost appreciation and respect. I felt it was only fitting to pay homage to him for this week’s Slow Jam Saturday.
Some naysayers wrote Tito off as a background singer, but Mr. Jackson was much more than that; he was an accomplished musician in his own right. He would later succeed as a blues musician, releasing two solo albums. However, this is Slow Jam Saturday, and I wanted to highlight one of the Tito-led ballads from The Jackson 5 era, “It All Begins and Ends with Love.”
Initially appearing on the group’s “Dancing Machine” album, the song was written by Don Fenton, Jerry Marcellino, and Mel Larson. The track highlights the significance and strength of love in our existence. The song’s lyrics express joy, contentment, and fulfillment from experiencing love.
Tito’s voice, filled with joy, opens the song and croons that love can chase away loneliness. Love becomes a source of comfort and companionship, providing a sense of belonging and connection. The phrase “It all begins and ends with love” implies that love is life’s foundation and ultimate fulfillment.
Jackie’s verse conveys immense joy in being close to someone they care about. His lyric “I’m touching stars I never could” implies that love enhances their existence, granting them experiences beyond what they ever thought possible. Michael’s verse enriches this theme by referencing an older man who delights in the nostalgia of songs from his childhood.
