Slow Jam Saturday : Raheem DeVaughn, Let’s Fall In Love

Washington, D.C.-based singer Raheem DeVaughn is coming home for two shows later this month at The Legendary Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, Virginia. So, for this week’s Slow Jam Saturday, a segment where we celebrate the best slow jams in R&B, I wanted to give some kudos to one of his new ballads, “Let’s Fall in Love.”

Initially released in 2023 on the crooner’s “Fall in Love” EP, the lush ballad covers The Isley Brothers’ classic. As evident by his “Jackin 4 Beats” series and his participation in the “The Secret Garden” remake with Omar Wilson, Sisqo, and Shawn Stockmen, DeVaughn is no stranger to cover songs. He always adds his unique flavor, making each rendition a must-listen for R&B fanatics.

The song “Let’s Fall In Love (Pts. 1 & 2)” by The Isley Brothers adeptly captures the fervor and longing associated with the initial stages of romantic relationships, a sentiment well-recognized by soul music enthusiasts. The song poignantly conveys a yearning for profound connection and love, underscoring the warmth of emotional intimacy and the exhilaration of nascent affection. Through its evocative lyrics and memorable melodies, the composition masterfully encapsulates the enduring concept of love as a ubiquitous human experience that resonates with all individuals.

Raheem’s version   opens with a playful and inviting chorus, urging his lady love to “think it over” and “come a little closer.” This repeated call to action highlights the singer’s genuine interest and desire to continue their relationship. The phrase “come a little closer” is a metaphor for physical proximity and emotional intimacy.

The lyrics in Verse 1 express a profound sense of yearning as Raheem reflects on his desire for love, articulating, “All of my life I have pondered when love would be.” This line encapsulates a timeless quest for companionship. The mention of “the stars above” in Verse 2 conveys connotations of destiny or fate, suggesting that the singer perceives a profound connection with the girl as if cosmic forces had predetermined their encounter.

Furthermore, “everyone needs someone to love” emphasizes the universal importance of human connection, allowing listeners to relate to the message on a profoundly personal level. Having my wife in my life for seventeen years brings back our feelings when we first started dating. Raheem’s tenor, combined with memorable melodies, makes this song catchy and heartfelt, reminding us of the beauty of love’s simplest moments.

Final Grade: A

Apple TV+’s “Your Friends & Neighbors” Season 2 Expands Its World—and Its Impact

Picking up after Coop (Jon Hamm) narrowly avoids prison, the season finds him still navigating moral gray areas, even after realizing that Sam (Olivia Munn) framed him for murder. His relationship with ex-wife Mel (Amanda Peet) remains complicated—emotionally unresolved yet intentionally restrained. The show avoids easy resets, allowing its characters to grapple with the discomfort they’ve created.

Review: “Imperfect Women” Is A Stylish Slow-Burn Anchored by Strong Performances

Apple TV+’s “Imperfect Women”, created by Annie Weisman and directed in part by Lesli Linka Glatter, presents a polished, character-driven mystery that reveals its strengths over time. Centered around the unraveling of a decades-long friendship, the series relies more on emotional depth than on shock value, and this choice largely pays off.
