Inside the mind of actor Ronnie Baker Jr

Actor Ronnie Baker Jr. took time out of his busy schedule to talk about his role in director Bobby Huntley’s film, Connect.

Reviews & DunnWho were your early acting influences growing up?

Ronnie Baker – My early acting influences in no particular order is Marlon Brando, James Dean, James Earl Jones & Denzel Washington

Reviews & DunnWhat can you tell us about your character in Connect?

Ronnie Baker – Monroe is that character you love to hate but he is an opportunist and definitively about his money! Monroe and Vincent have an interesting dynamic, Vincent is chill, reserved, and laid back. Monroe is the complete opposite, he is loud, quick to make a joke, always coming up with ways to make a little extra cash type of character. When you see them interact the balance between the two personalities works so well, it just adds layer after layer of tension for the scenes.

Reviews & DunnWhat do you hope audiences take away from Connect?

Ronnie Baker – We all have talents and gifts we are all unique and special. Never stifle yourself to make someone else comfortable, so use the gifts.

Reviews & DunnWhen COVID hit, Verzuz became a big thing. So far, what has been your favorite match up and who would you love to see, go head to head?

Ronnie Baker – My favorite match up so far has been Jill Scott Vs Erykah Badu & Gucci Vs Jeezy and if I had my pick I’d like to see Jay-Z vs Lil Wayne battle

Reviews & DunnComic book films are the rage lately. Is there a particular comic book character you would love to see on the big screen?

Ronnie Baker – Val Zod (The Black Superman). It is about time for that story to be told and I hope to be part of it one day.

Reviews & DunnIs there anything you would like to add? Moreover, where can fans find you on social media?

Ronnie Baker – This is a great film, I am blessed to have been a part of it and to tell this story in this time. It is timely with everything that is going on in the world but it also feels like a superhero origin story. Cannot wait for you all to see it and talk about it. Thank you for watching I hope you all enjoy.

Street Dreaming With Author Justin Jones

Hip Hop Head and author Justin Jones is currently in the final writing stages of his second book ‘Hip Hop Was Dead: The State of the Culture 2003-2007’. That book covers a 5-year era of Hip-Hop and how the culture was affected during that period. Mr. Jones took some time out, though, to chat with me about his debut book Street Dreaming: Reading Nas’ It Was Written.
